HBS Group P/L received the Best Specialist Contractor award for their work on the fountain fin the recent Master Builders Association Awards.
The $350,000 project saw the fountain’s cast balustrade, masonry repaired, as well as painting, plumbing and electrical upgrade.

City of Greater Bendigo’s Presentation and Assets Director Debbie Wood congratulated HBS group on their achievement, saying the restoration had required use of specialised trades.
“The City of Greater Bendigo congratulates HBS Group for taking out this award for the restoration work they completed on the City’s most recognisable landmark,” Ms Wood said.
“The Alexandra Fountain is an important part of the city’s history and its future.
“Prior to last year’s restoration the last major work undertaken on the fountain was in 2010 so it was an important project which has given this local icon a new lease of life.”

The fountain which sits at the intersection of View Street and Pall Mall was officially opened in 1881. It was designed by notable local architect William Vahland.
The latest refurbishment works to the fountain were completed in November of 2017.
