Winds are expected to strengthen on Tuesday night, before a cold front hits the state early on Wednesday.
Kyneton is among the areas which may be affected.
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned damaging northerly winds averaging 50 to 60 kilometres per hour could develop. Peak gusts could reach 90 to 100 kilometres per hour.

KYNETON could be in for a battering, with damaging winds forecast for parts of the state overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast northerly winds averaging 50 – 60km/h, with peak gusts of 90 – 100km/h, will develop over elevated parts of the warning area on Tuesday night.
Gusts of up to 120km/h are possible over Alpine areas.
The warning area encompasses the south west forecast district and parts of the central, east Gippsland, north central, north east and west and south Gippsland districts.
A severe weather warning, issued at 4.47pm today, said damaging northerly winds were likely to extend to the remaining parts of the southwest and central districts for a period overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.
Winds are expected to ease following the passage of the cold front later Wednesday morning.
The State Emergency Service advised people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
