Bendigo McDonald’s licensee Stefan Wojciechowski was moved by Bendigo man David Love’s kind gesture and his concern at Bert Bradley’s struggle to pay for his order with the coins in his pocket.
“When I heard about David’s kind gesture and Bert’s situation, I wanted to help,” Mr Wojciechowski said.
“At the end of the day, this isn’t about McDonald’s – it’s about a great guy who helped out someone down on their luck.”
In Victoria, seniors card holders are eligible to receive a small tea or coffee free when they spend $3 at McDonald’s restaurants.
WEDNESDAY: TWO Bendigo men have been thrust into the spotlight after being filmed at the counter of a McDonald’s restaurant on Tuesday morning.
Tradie David Love was recorded paying for Bert Bradley’s meal after noticing the 88-year-old man was struggling to cover the cost of his order with the coins in his pocket.
Mr Love also gave Mr Bradley $20 to help pay for his next order.
A video Mr Love’s partner, Melanie Langley, recorded of part of the exchange had been viewed almost 2 million times at the time of writing.
The kind gesture has captured the attention of domestic and international media.
Mr Love said he had been unaware his partner was filming. He said he was heartbroken by the idea of Mr Bradley being unable to afford his meal.
“I’m not trying to be a hero,” Mr Love said.
“He just reminds me of my late dad.”
He has since received a video from Mr Bradley’s grandson, in which the 88-year-old reads a letter to Mr Love.
“I would like to thank David very much for his kindness shown to me in McDonald’s, where I sit and have breakfast a few times a week,” Mr Bradley said.
“I can see that your kind gesture has not gone unnoticed on Facebook, according to my grandson Luke.
“Thank you so much.”
