The intersection of View Street and Pall Mall reopened during the night, after a car collided with a truck at the busy Charing Cross intersection just after 8pm.
The front passenger of the car was trapped and later taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The male driver of the car, a 22 year old from Bendigo was treated for minor injuries. He is currently under police guard at hospital.
The male driver of the truck stopped and assisted at the scene.
UPDATE 9.30pm: ONE man was trapped in the vehicle for about an hour and has been taken to hospital in a critical condition with head injuries.
A second man aged in his 20s was taken to Bendigo Health and is in a stable condition.
It’s believed the Holden Commodore sedan in which they were travelling collided with a truck at the intersection, before being dragged for about 20 metres and coming to rest near the fountain.
Traffic investigators are on scene.
The two occupants of the truck did not suffer any physical injuries.
UPDATE 8.50pm: Motorists can travel along View Street and turn left into Pall Mall, but the intersection is now also closed northbound from Forest Street.
The State Emergency Service is on scene, providing rescue efforts.
It’s believed a vehicle was turning right into Mitchell Street, when it collided with a truck travelling along Pall Mall. The car has been pushed through the intersection.
EARLIER: Emergency services are on scene at a crash in the centre of Bendigo.
It appears a truck and car have collided at Charing Cross, near Alexandra Fountain.
Traffic is being directed away from Mitchell Street, and motorists are unable to travel south along Pall Mall from Williamson Street.
