Nexus Bendigo Youth Theatre will unveil its latest production at The Capital with more than 60 young actors taking part.
Maddy Tyzzer, who plays Maria, said she was excited and nervous to take on her first lead role.
“I’ve watched The Sound of Music since I was a little girl,” she said. “All my grandparents love it, my mum love it and they encouraged me to audition.
“The music is so familiar to a lot of people. I learned all the songs in grade 1 when I started singing lessons.”
Director Julie Lovell said The Sound of Music has a fabulous storyline.
“The Sound of Music is a classic and we have found there’s a whole generation of kids that don’t know the show,” she said. “That makes a great connection of grandparents who are bringing their grandchildren to see the show to explain an era of their own, which is lovely.”
Nexus BYT’s The Sound of Music is at The Capital at 7pm on July 26 to 28 and August 2 to 4. It is also on at 1pm on July 28 and August 4.
