Fayyad’s documentary Last Men in Aleppo was nominated for the best documentary feature Oscar last year.
It will feature at the Castlemaine festival on Saturday, July 21, alongside a discussion and audience Q&A with Fayyad led by award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker Santilla Chingaipe.
Chingaipe spent nearly a decade working for SBS World News, which saw her report from across Africa and interview some of the continent’s most prominent leaders.
Last Men in Aleppo was filmed over three years and follows the struggles of a group of volunteer civilians who rescue victims buried under the rubble of daily bomb strikes.
One of Fayyad’s previous documentaries – On the Other Side followed an exiled Syrian poet and resulted in Fayyad’s imprisonment and torture for more than a year.
