Foodshare volunteers won’t let Cathie Steele nominate them for individual awards. So the Foodshare board chair has acknowledged them with a nomination for Community Group of the Year with Awards Australia.

“We get people who will come in three or four, five days a week, at seven in the morning at -2 degrees or 40 degrees, at all weather in a shed. They do it day in, day out. ” she said.
“The fact that they all get together and all do that needs to be known, needs to be shouted about.”
Foodshare is one of seven Bendigo groups and people nominated for a Community Award with Awards Australia.

Also nominated are: the Bendigo Pony Club, Bendigo Youth Choir, the Bushfire Foundation, Bendigo Community Children’s Services and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Nathan Rogers, CEO of the Bushfire Foundation, has also been nominated.
The foundation helps members of the community, who wouldn’t otherwise, protect their properties from fire. Simple measures, such as cutting grass and cleaning gutters help keep vulnerable community members safe.
When he started the organisation, it wasn’t about being noticed, but it’s still nice to feel his work is valued.
“When I first started, it’s not about recognition or those sorts of things, it was about helping,” he said.
“It is good to feel recognised and know that people obviously feel what we’re doing is helpful and it’s needed.”
