The City of Greater Bendigo has begun work on new dog parks at Truscott Reserve, California Gully, and Allingham Street, Kangaroo Flat.

The council included $74,000 in its current budget for stage one works at both venues, which are expected to be completed by June 30.

No money for further works was included in the council’s draft 2018-19 budget.

COGB public space design coordinator Aaron Lindsay said the stage one works at both sites include installation of fencing, provision of water supply points for both dogs and people, installation of dog bag dispensers, bins and signage .

The 1.3-hectare Kangaroo Flat site is located near the corner of Allingham and Chapel Streets, while the Truscott Reserve site is 1.8 hectares.

Both sites will include fenced off areas for small dogs within the new parks.

“Future, but as yet unfunded works at both sites, are expected to include walking paths, trees, seats and the addition of dog agility equipment such as ramps and pipes,” Mr Lindsay said.

Unlike the city’s existing dog park, Harcourt Park in Strathdale, neither the Kangaroo Flat or California Gully sites had a natural water source.
