CMC ended its preliminary rounds with a 3-0 record, while inflicting BSSC’s first defeat with the 7.9 (51) to 5.6 (36) result at the QEO.
In a game that was decided by 15 points, ultimately, it was CMC’s strong start to create an early buffer and lead by three goals at quarter-time that was pivotal in the final result.
“The boys got off to a ripping start and after kicking those early goals we were able to keep our lead around three goals for the rest of the game,” CMC coach Lee Coghlan said.
“The pressure from our boys was just fantastic today… they forced BSSC to cough the ball up and we were able to capitalise.”
In a game where only 12 goals were kicked, the impact of Sean O’Farrell to boot four was significant for CMC.
“Sean has been injured and today was his first game for us this year and it was just so good to see him back out there playing,” Coghlan said.
“He did a really good job to kick four goals and was our best player.”
O’Farrell was the only multiple goalkicker in the game.
