Based on the works of Dr Seuss, the musical brings together a number of popular characters led by The Cat in the Hat and Horton.
Director Kerrie Turpie said it had been amazing to see staff and students bring the show together both on and off the stage.
“We have explored the magical and imaginative world of Dr Seuss as well as building on students’ skills in singing, dancing and acting these larger-than-life characters,” she said.
“The amazing groups of students who have worked in many different areas of the backstage such as building, painting and learning technical skills in theatre have produced an incredible production.”
Seussical features almost 90 students in the cast.
“Our ensemble (has) created new friendships, shared laughs and stressful moments, and developed confidence,” Mrs Turpie said.
Deanna Duane takes on the character of The Cat in the Hat, who narrates the story of Horton.
Played by Callum Broderick, Horton finds a speck that contains the world of Whoville.
He also meets young Who Jojo, encounters the affection of Gertrude McFuzz and cares for an egg on behalf of Mayzie LaBird.
Musical director Ashleigh Yeates said Seussical is one of her favourite musicals.
“The way the themes all combine in the finale as all characters are on stage is so clever and by no means easy,” she said.
“From Latin, slow jazz ballads and quirky sound effects, the cast has had a variety of musical genres presented to them throughout the rehearsal period of this show.”
Seussical is on at Ulumbarra Theatre on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm.
