Beer lovers will be able to identify which craft beers are independently owned thanks to the Independent Brewers Association’s latest efforts.

The IBA launched a seal that brewers can include on their packaging, kegs and taps, identifying themselves as locally owned and operated businesses.
IBA board member Will Tatchell said the movement is focused on educating beer drinkers in Australia.
“We want to educate all beer consumers to ensure that they understand the variety, quality and emotional engagement that beer made by local independent breweries offers,” he said.
“The trend towards locally brewed, hand-crafted beer made by small independent breweries is not a fad, it is a fundamental shift on a global scale.”
Bendigo Beer president Trevor Birks said the seals would help customers ensure they are supporting Australian owned beer.
“Bendigo Beer has been a passionate advocate for independent breweries since 2011,” he said.
“This seal means Bendigo people who care about where the profits of their purchases go, can spend with confidence.
“Our festival, Bendigo On The Hop, was the first in Australia to exclude foreign-owned breweries and it’s great that the industry has developed an identity for all of us fighting the good fight.”
All IBA members eligible to use the seal by entering into a license agreement through the IBA website. Currently, 50 per cent of the country’s craft brewers are IBA members.
