EARLIER: than 2500 students will hit the track at Bendigo Jockey Club on Friday for the Campaspe, Goldfields and Sandhurst divisions cross country championships.
Organised by the Bendigo Physical Education Committee, the event provides the opportunity for primary school students of all abilities to compete, with winners from the top divisions having the chance to qualify for the state championships in Melbourne.
Event convenor Wendy Ennor said athletes from more than 65 schools would participate over 2000m and 3000m distances.
“Many students from across the region look forward to this event each year; it caters for students of all abilities as each age group has a variety of levels” she said.
Races for eight, nine and 10-year-olds will be run from 10.30am to noon, with the 11 and 12-year-olds to follow from 12.45pm to 2.30pm.
