Volunteer drivers transfer animals for adoption and medical care, as well as transport wildlife to dedicated carers for rehabilitation.
Drivers might also transport goods and donations for the organisation’s op shops.
“It’s a role with lots of variety – we mostly transport cats, kittens, dogs and pups, but occasionally birds with injured wings, lizards, turtles and even rats in need of a new home,” RSPCA Victoria volunteer engagement manager Rebecca Hudson said.
Applicants will need a valid full driving licence and a good level of general fitness, as lifting might be part of the role.
Other responsibilities can include observing animal behaviour and reporting feedback to staff, loading or unloading animals, and driving a vehicle with a trailer attached.
Training is provided.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the RSPCA Victoria volunteer engagement team on 9224 2222 or email volunteer@rspcavic.org.au.
