VicRoads has given approval to the City of Greater Bendigo to reduce the speed limit in the vicinity of the intersection of Axedale-Goornong and Epsom-Barnadown roads.
The intersection has been the site of several serious car accidents in recent years.
New signage advising of the new 80km/h speed limit will be installed in May.
“(Council) is currently preparing detailed concept plans for a staggered T-intersection and is continuing discussions with landowners near the intersection,” City of Greater Bendigo Engineering Manager Brett Martini said.
“We are also preparing a funding submission to the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program to cover the cost of the future safety works.”
The staggered T-intersection would mean motorists travelling on the Epsom-Barnadown Road are required to turn onto the Axedale-Goornong Road and then back onto the Epsom-Barnadown Road, rather than travelling straight across the intersection.
“A 100 km/h speed limit will be restored after intersection works are undertaken in the future,” Mr Martini said.
“In the meantime motorists are urged to abide by the new speed limit and take care when travelling near this intersection.”
