On Saturday, the musician and looping artist will take to the Groovin the Moo stage.
“When Triple J called me, I was pretty shocked,” Aaron said.
“I have had stuff up on Unearthed for quite a few years but when I released Running Backwards, that got me the spot.
“My producer and I felt like we had a good chance.”
Like many other local GTM acts, Saturday’s set will be in front of the biggest crowd Aaron has faced
“The biggest so far is probably to about 500 people,” he said.
“I don't know what to expect. At the start of the day there could be heaps of people or not many at all.”
The 18-year-old Aaron started playing drums at age eight before turning his interest to other instruments.
“For me a lot of the interest when I started was from picking up little bits and pieces,” he said.
“I'm self taught, so I just kept looking down different pathways of music and different things I could do.”
Looping involves musicians repeating sections of sounds using digital hardware.
Aaron said the ability to loop gives solo artists a bigger sound.
“Being a solo act, looping is a very big and integral part of my performance,” he said.
“Tash Sultana is a big influence for me, she does whole the looping thing very well, that's where my influence comes from.
“I play quite a variety of things. There is a lot of indie-folk and alt-rock (in my music), they're the two genres I play around with and experiment in.”
Running Backwards, Aaron latest single is the first of a few releases he is planning this year.
He hopes GTM will give him a chance to take another step in his music career.
“I’m releasing another single and album by end of the year,” he said.
“(GTM) another step on the path to reach my goals in music. It will help with exposure and getting out there. Anything could happen from it.”
Before he plays in front of thousands of people, Aaron will join GTM Bendigo alumni Jack and the Kids and Tusk and local musician Steven Hammer at a festival’s official launch party.
“Friday’s warm-up party sounds like it will be a bit of fun with Jack and the Kids and Tusk,” Aaron said.
Daniel Aaron plays at GTM Bendigo on Saturday from 11.40am.
He joins Jack and the Kids, Tusk and Steven Hammer at the Rifle on Friday from 7pm.
