Now, to help these dogs find loving homes, the RSPCA is offering reduced adoption fees until May 7.
Animal care manager Liz Walker said these dogs often spent a long time waiting for adoption because of unfair judgement.
“Mostly, these are beautiful, friendly dogs who are simply looking for their second chance, just like any other animal in RSPCA Victoria’s care,” Ms Walker said.
“Despite this, a negative stigma continues to be attached to many of these dogs, and it is regrettable that misconceptions about particular breeds are often perpetuated through media and a lack of public awareness.”
Honey, a five-year-old English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, is up for adoption in Bendigo.
Honey was surrendered to the RSPCA with her eight puppies when they were two weeks old.
The usual adoption procedures will apply during the ‘Adoptabull’ promotion, to match animals to the right family.
All the dogs are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and health and behaviour-checked.
