Strathfieldsaye Fire Brigade Captain Matt McCarthy said the brigade wanted to engage with the community at the open day.
“Our aim today was to display the brigade to the community and have an open discussion about our equipment and what we do,” Captain McCarthy said.
“We’ve had a lot of people through and a couple of people have asked to be recruited as volunteers which is a good outcome for us.”
The brigade gave away free sausages and soft-drinks as well as displayed an array of vehicles including a sky lift truck on loan from the Bendigo Fire Brigade.
The brigade has recently called for more volunteers to join in order to help increase its capacity to respond to call outs in the area.
Scott Vaughan brought his two children Lucy and Flynn to the open day so they could get up close with the fire trucks.
“They see a lot of the trucks on T.V and online, they pay a great interest to them,” Mr Vaughan said.
“It’s great the CFA have come out and given the children the experience to see them up close.”
