The operation targets country areas that have seen high levels of road trauma.
“We know that speed is a major factor for road trauma in country Victoria, and we are actively targeting as part of Operation Fahrenheit speed and impairment,” State Highway Patrol Inspector John Cormack said.
Inspector Cormack said even low-level speeding was in the sights of officers.
Speeding motorists were at much greater risk of experiencing road trauma, he said, and were less likely to survive a crash.
Country drivers are also much more likely to die on the roads than people in metropolitan areas.
Inspector Cormack urged people to slow down, rest, not drive when tired, and not drive after drinking or taking drugs.
He said people should also drive to the conditions, particularly going into winter.
EARLIER: State Highway Patrol officers have so far found more than 50 drivers speeding during a weekend operation in the Campaspe police area, including two people driving at more than 30km/h over the limit with children in their vehicles.
Police say one of the drivers was detected driving in Girgarre at 133km/h in a 100km/h zone with four young children.
Another had two children in the car while driving at 139km/h.
At least two learner drivers were also caught driving well over the limit.
One was detected driving 127km/h in a 100km/h zone, leading to a fine of $436, four demerit points and a month off the road.
The supervising driver also received a $198 fine.
Another learner driver was 16km/h over then 100km/h limit and received a $317 fine and three demerit points.
Of the 51 speeding drivers detected as of Sunday night, 10 were caught at more than 25km/h over the limit, incurring loss of their licences.
Officers had also detected nine motorists driving with drugs in their system.
Two drivers were also found drink-driving.
Other offences officers came across included four unregistered vehicles, one disqualified driver, two people failing to wear seatbelts, six unroadworthy vehicles, and one failure to slow to 40km/h when passing an emergency vehicle.
The Campaspe operation began on Thursday and finishes Monday.
