The top 20 finalists have been announced, with businesses ranging from hospitality to furniture.
Be.Bendigo engagement manager Jayson Tayeh said more than 12,000 votes were cast in last year’s People’s Choice Award.
Lyttleton Terrace eatery Crooked Kitchen went home with the accolade – a title it is in the running to win once more.
“In 2017 we were able to celebrate some great business achievements and I have no doubt we will uncover some terrific stories again in 2018,” Mr Tayeh said.
The People’s Choice will be announced at the 2018 Bendigo Business Excellence Awards Gala Event on June 1, along with a range of other categories.
Finalists in the other categories are expected to be announced on April 24.
Fifteen independent judges from cities such as Ballarat, Echuca, Geelong, Melbourne and Greater Bendigo have been selected to assess the entries.
The judges will work in groups of three to assess each category.
“Last year the judges thought they had it all figured out after assessing the applications, but the on-site visits really turned it on its head,” Mr Tayeh said.
“It is incredibly hard to separate businesses that make it through as finalists and I’m sure the judges will have their work cut out for them again in 2018.”
