The highway was closed for several hours after a car and a truck collided on the highway, with motorists asked to take a long detour via the Midland Highway and Northern Highway.
A 56-year-old Spring Gully woman died at the scene.
The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries.
7.00pm Victoria police have said the woman tragically killed during a road incident near Axedale on Thursday was a 56-year-old from Spring Gully.
Police, and State Emergency Service crews are still at the scene, where the truck involved in the incident was in the process of being moved.
The McIvor Highway remains closed at Axedale-Kimbolton Road in Axedale and Longlea Lane in Junortoun.

The road is closed at Axedale-Kimbolton Road in Axedale and Longlea Lane in Junortoun.
Local detours are in place using these roads and Strathfieldaye Road.
The highway is expected to remain closed into the afternoon.

VicRoads has advised that the McIvor Highway will likely remain closed into the early afternoon and that motorists should avoid the area.
The road has been closed between Axedale-Toolleen Road and Axedale-Goornong Road.
VicRoads suggests motorists use the Midland Highway and the Northern Highway as a detour. The detour route is long and motorists should allow at least an extra hour for travel.

Victoria Police believe the truck was travelling east when it collided with a car travelling west-bound.
The female driver of the vehicle, who died at the scene, is yet to be identified.
The male truck driver received minor injuries and was taken by road ambulance to hospital.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Police have confirmed a woman has died in this mornings crash.
Bendigo police senior sergeant Bruce Simpson said a female had died after a car and truck collided.
Police were yet to confirm the identity of the deceased woman and the cause of the crash.

The B-double that rolled in this mornings crash is completely blocking the McIvor Highway, while a car is off the scrub at the side of the road.
Police are about to speak to the media.

Traffic is being diverted after a serious collision on the McIvor Highway near Ingham Road.
VicRoads has advised people needed to avoid the area and seek an alternative route. They suggested the Midland Hwy and Northern Hwy

Emergency crews are responding after a car and truck collided on the McIvor Highway near Axedale.
The truck then rolled over.
Paramedics are assessing one person at the scene.
VicRoads has advised it has closed part of the highway in both directions and is advising motorists to avoid the area.
