With a reserve day required after last Saturday’s opening day was washed out, the Redbacks defeated Sandhurst by three wickets at North Bendigo.
The Redbacks took into the 69th over to answer Sandhurst’s 129 with 7-131 in front of a big Good Friday crowd.
Thurston finished 17 n.o. to follow up his superb 4-33 off 32 overs last Sunday.
The Redbacks’ top-scorer was veteran Nick Crawford (31), while Kayde Howard (2-44) and Nathan Walsh (2-12) picked up two wickets apiece for the Dragons.
The Redbacks won the premiership having finished fourth on the ladder after the home and away season.
