LAST YEAR: 6th – 8-8
MORE pace and youth are two of the ingredients Pyramid Hill will inject to ensure its finals absence is only brief.
The Bulldogs last year missed the finals for the first time since 2003 with their sixth-placed finish.
The club has experienced a turnover of key players, including two of their targets in attack in Joe McGrath and Sam Kennedy, but co-coach Brad Fawcett says the departures will create an opportunity for the Bulldogs to field a younger and quicker team this year.
“We identified after last year that we were probably a bit old and slow,” Fawcett said.
“So with some of the guys that we’ve lost and some that we’ve brought in, a lot of which are between 18 and 21, our average age is going to go down a lot.
“Hopefully, that will reinvigorate the playing group and allow us to play a fast and exciting brand of footy.”
Among the Bulldogs’ recruits are a quartet of players from Tyntynder – Lachlan Carroll, Tom Sala, Jack Hickmott and Connor Gibbins – while the club has a strong underbelly of emerging talent after it won the under-18 premiership last year.
