LAST YEAR: 9th – 2-13-1
AFTER bottoming out last year, the only way is up for Mount Pleasant under new coach Darren Walsh.
The Blues – the most successful club in the Heathcote District league – are coming off a rare wooden-spoon season after winning just two games in 2017.
However, the Blues wasted no time starting to rebuild a their list, with their first two signings dynamic forward Ben Weightman, who has kicked 278 goals for Kyneton the past four years, plus five-time Golden Square premiership defender Dale Young.
Other signings at Toolleen since have included Luke Marchesi, who was best on ground in Calivil United’s grand final win last year, former University Blues’ pair Hugo Steinfort and Edward Ratcliffe, young forward Jack Bouwmeester and former South Bendigo on-baller Charles Trotman.
“We’re coming from a fair way back obviously and it’s not going to happen overnight… it might be gradual over the next few years, but hopefully, we can develop our group,” Walsh said.
“It has been really positive so far with the numbers we’ve been getting at training and working on building the culture back up to start climbing the ladder again.”
