LAST YEAR: 7th – 4-12
A HOST of former players are returning to Heathcote this year.
Daniel Russell, Damien King, Daniel Anderson, Marc Millard, Ben Connelly and James Baker are all ex-Heathcote players who are back with the club, while Blake Coyle was also going to play again for the Saints before re-injuring his knee playing cricket.
“The club over the past few years has struggled and it’s good to get these guys coming back. They want to make sure that the club is headed back in the right direction,” coach Luke Bell said.
The returns of Russell from the Northern Territory Thunder and 2009 premiership player Damien King will bolster the Saints’ ruck department.
“It gives us a couple of game-breakers in terms of not just their ruck work, but also their ability to get over the ground, link up through the midfield and, hopefully, push forward to kick a couple of goals,” Saints’ coach Luke Bell said.
Like King, Anderson and Marc Millard, who are both coming back from a year out of the game, are also players with Heathcote premiership experience that will benefit the side as it strives to build on its four wins of last season.
