Carlton coach Brendon Bolton confirmed on Wednesday morning that the former Bendigo Pioneers midfielder would take on the Tigers.
Dow and fellow recruits Jarrod Garlett, Matthew Kennedy and Aaron Mullett will play their first games for the Blues.
"It's a pretty special day for our footy club and particularly those four," Bolton said on Wednesday.
"We think they'll all add some excitement to our group”.
Dow, from Swan Hill, made a big impression with the Blues in the pre-season competition.
The goal kicking midfielder looks set for a long AFL career.
“It’s exciting for Paddy,’’ Bendigo Pioneers talent manager Steve Sharp said.
“He’s done everything Carlton has asked of him and his effort and preparation has been first class.
“As a club we’re really proud of him. To move away from his family at a young age to attend private school, still commit to playing TAC Cup footy with the Pioneers and then get drafted is a gear effort. It’s great for the Pioneers region.”
