The children of the centre weren’t left out, participating in a crazy hair day to contribute.
The centrel’s director Emily Martin said administration assistant Tara Harding wanted to face the clippers for the World’s Greatest Shave, so asked if the centre could become involved.
Then two other staff members – assistant director Jay Kingdon and Janine Henderson – stepped up to the plate, as did parent Mick Martin.
“(We just want to say) how proud we are of them; it’s a pretty brave thing to do,” Ms Martin said.
Ms Martin said the centre also wanted to back the cause as parents, grandparents, staff members and even a child had experienced cancer.
Yesterday’s event was met with much excitement from the children attending the centre, with some even asking if they, too, could have their heads shaved.
As of lunchtime yesterday, the centre had raised $1600 for the Leukaemia Foundation, with more donations expected to come in.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the World’s Greatest Shave, which was started by northern New South Wales resident Cathy Mooney to raise money for her father, who had bone cancer.
