The iconic Bendigo dragon is the highlight of the gala parade and requires about 80 men to carry him through the streets.
He has already performed in Melbourne this year when he celebrated Lunar New Year at the Melbourne Museum.
Sun Loong is traditionally carried by men with women representing the Bendigo Chinese Association in other aspects of the parade.
BCA president Doug Lougoon said he hoped to have enough volunteers to present the association’s full complement of dragons and banners.
“With Sun Loong we usually rely on 80 people and we would need about 40 people to carry banners,” he said.
“We want to make sure we put on best showing possible for (what could be) his solo finale.”

Mr Lougoon estimated that more than 800 volunteers would take part in the BCA’s part of the gala parade.
“Including all the women and the visiting lion teams we are looking 800 or 900 volunteers,” he said.
“It’s been a full on all year between Sun Loong being in Melbourne, Chinese New Year and Easter being early.
“But we are looking forward to another successful year and are quite excited about whole dragon focus on Sun Loong and Dai Gum Loong over next 12 months.”
Registrations To help carry Sun Loong open on March 17. The BCA is open from 1pm to 5pm on weekends and 4pm to 6pm every weekday.
