Police have confirmed the woman who died on Tuesday morning in Butler Street, California Gully was aged in her 20s.
A 38-year-old California Gully man remains in hospital after an incident on Monday night.
Police say no charges have been laid.

Police are continuing their investigations into the death of a woman in California Gully on Monday.
The woman was found dead just after midnight on Monday night.
A man was under police guard at Bendigo hospital on Tuesday after being taken to hospital in a critical condition. It is believed both parties are known to each other.
Homicide squad detectives and forensic teams spent Tuesday investigating the scene and speaking with neighbours in Butler Street, California Gully.
The woman is yet to be identified and the circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be determined.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

A pathologist team has arrived at the Butler Street scene in California Gully.
They removed evidence from the scene.
Meanwhile, more detectives have arrived. Police and forensic teams remain at the scene.

Police remain at the scene where a woman was found dead in California Gully overnight.
Forensic teams scoured the front of the house before heading inside to inspect the scene.
Detectives have spent the morning speaking with neighbours.
The crime scene is expected to remain in place for some time.
