The four-day national championships at the Anna Meares Velodrome finished on Sunday, with the Bendigo District Cycling Club trio of Buckell, Braeden Dean and Ned Pollard all claiming medals.

Buckell was part of the Victorian team that won the elite men teams pursuit gold in a time of 3:58.829.

While Buckell didn’t race in the final against South Australia, the 18-year-old rode in the heat to qualify Victoria for the gold ride.

Buckell’s fellow gold medalists in the Victorian team were Kelland O’Brien, Leigh Howard, Riley Hart and Godfrey Slattery.

The win was the first time Victoria had claimed the national men’s team pursuit trophy since 2008.

“It was a big highlight having two world champions (O’Brien and Howard) in the team and being able to ride with them,” Buckell said.

Pollard and Dean both won bronze medals – Pollard in the under-19 men’s team sprint and Dean in the men’s team sprint.

Meanwhile, Bendigo cyclists Sam Crome and Alexander Evans both finished inside the top 10 in the general classification of the Herald Sun Tour.

Crome rounded out the Tour by claiming Sunday’s stage four at Kinglake.

Crome won the 152km stage in a time of 3h37:34, with his stage victory the first by an Australian rider for this year’s tour.

Crome ended the tour overall in seventh position, one spot ahead of Evans.
