Less than a week after his victory in the Mountain to Surf Run (8km) at Lorne, Buchanan clocked a time of 3:47.23 in the 1500m contest on the Albert Park track.
The A-grade duel was won by Matthew Clarke from Old Xaverians in 3:46.87.
Several athletes from Flack Advisory Bendigo Region clubs competed in the third meet of the Milers season.
South Bendigo’s Yazmin Hayes contested the women’s B-grade 1500m and was seventh in a field of 17.
Hayes clocked 4:49.97 in more encouraging signs heading to next weekend’s Victoria Country track and field titles at Ballarat.
Racing on invitation basis, Bendigo’s Michael Preece ran the 800m in 2:00.24 to be runner-up in the D-grade event.
Preece won the the open 800m at the Maryborough Highland Gathering on New Year’s Day.
South Bendigo’s Jack Popplestone clocked 2:03.62 to be fifth of eight in the E-grade 800m.
University’s Lee McCullagh raced the E-grade 1500m on invitation basis and achieved a time of 4:29.02.
Craig Green from University ran the G-grade 1500m in 4:40.54 and was sixth in a field of 15.
Track and field action is at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill on Saturday.
The Bendigo region meeting was scheduled to start at 1.30pm, but it has been moved to 6pm because of the hot weather.
It’s the final chance for athletes to qualify for a place in Bendigo’s team to contest the Athletics Victoria Shield final on February 10 at Lakeside Stadium.
