The upgrade will improve the plant’s ability to cope with changes in the quality of the raw water supply.
Coliban’s infrastructure manager Corey Bourne said the construction of a two kilometre sewer pipeline was part of a pre-treatment process that was needed to enable the plant to continue to supply high quality drinking water to customers.
Works on the sewer pipeline commenced in December 2017 and will be completed by April with no interruption to water or sewer services during construction.
“The pipeline construction will involve a combination of trenchless and open trenching methods. Trenchless techniques reduce the need for excavation and prevent damage to trees and their roots,” Mr Bourne said.
“Less excavation also means less disruption to traffic, although there will be some minor traffic management on Tuckermans Lane in Big Hill.”
