The 34-run win gave Northern Rivers a 2-0 record heading into Wednesday’s final preliminary round match against the winless Barwon at Geelong.
A fine half-century from Shepparton’s Andrew Poppa (51) and solid contributions from Murray Valley’s Jordan Cleeland (31), Shepparton’s Alistair McCann (25) and the BDCA’s James Vlaeminck (24) guided Northern Rivers to 9-193 off 50 overs at Melbourne University.
All of the Northern Rivers bowlers did their job as Metropolitan Northern battled from ball one to score freely.
The BDCA’s Nick Gladman (3-16) followed up his five-wicket haul on day one with another fine performance.
BDCA duo Ethan Hobson (2-18) and Daniel Clohesy (2-34) and Shepparton’s Harry Tonks (2-16) were also among the wickets.
Metropolitan Northern was eventually bowled out for 159 in the 48th over.
