When one thinks about New Year’s Eve, the mind immediately goes to fireworks and midnight toasts.
But the last day of the year is also a chance for families to enjoy the Australian summer.
Bendigonians did not wait until the stroke of 12 to start their celebration, with many of the city’s younger residents taking part in a family fun day at the Bendigo Stadium.
Organised by basketball club the Bendigo Spirit, the event was held in the lead-up to the team’s match against the Sydney University Flames.
Lake Weeroona and the White Hills Botanical Gardens were also popular places for December 31 picnics and playdates.
Earlier on Sunday, police asked those staying out late to drink in moderation and keep up their water intake.
