After racing off a handicap of 145m in 2016, Wight proved too good again off 40m in the feature event of the Bendigo and District Cycling Club’s Christmas Carnival.
Wight, from Mt Gambier, denied a host of locals victory in one of the most sort after races on the Bendigo calendar.

Wight won from Bendigo sprint star Braeden Dean, with former Bendigo-based cyclist Haydn Bradbury third. Rounding out the top four was Bendigo veteran Brendan Schultz.
Wight repeated the dose in the Victorian 10 Mile Motor Paced Championship.
The SASI rider defeated Bendigo young gun Isaac Buckell, with Bradbury rounding out a good carnival with another third placing.
Braeden Dean scored a deserved victory in the keirin final.
In the under-17 female Victorian Scratch Race Championship, Brunswick’s Keely Bennett outlasted a quality field to win from Kobi Merchant, Alyssa Polites and Alessia McCaig.
Brunswick also provided the winner of the under-17 male Victorian Scratch Race Championship after Henry Dietze defeated Max Leiner and Bendigo’s Jackson Hadden.
