The council has extended the free disposal period for storm debris, such as twigs, leaves, branches and logs, at the Castlemaine and Maldon tips and is also looking to provide a central collection point for debris in Taradale.
Taradalde was one of the hardest hit areas by the December 19 storm, which saw strong winds and heavy rainfall.
It is expected the collection point will be open in early February.
Municipal recovery officer Gaynor Atkin said council work crews had been out day and night to clear roads of fallen trees and timbers to create access to local roads.
“Staff have undertaken impact assessments and this will continue this throughout January,” she said.
“It may take some time for us to assess all roadside vegetation and undertake risk assessments. However, if you are concerned about potential risks associated with dangerous trees or roadside vegetation please make an online service request via our website.”
Residents who have sustained significant damage to their home can contact the Mount Alexander Shire’s municipal recovery manager on 0417 640 727 to discuss support options available.
The free disposal period does not apply to normal garden waste, grass clippings or commercial waste.
