Club president Ken Longford said Bendigo local Ashley was the winner and that it couldn’t have come at a more deserving time as her wallet was stolen last week.
“We’re one of the six rotary clubs in Bendigo who are being supported by the community to give back to the community,” Ken said.
There were approximately 60 people “full of excitement” in attendance and traditional Christmas fare was on the menu for the evening.
Also celebrated on the night was the presentation of two defibrillators to Mrs Carol Booker, principal of Jamieson, a 6-year-old boy who suffers from a heart condition that requires access to the medical equipment at all times.
The defibrillators at his school and home were old and there were issues surrounding the reliability of the batteries.
To raise the funds the club applied for a grant through Rotary Australia and were successful in raising half the money with the grant covering the remainder.
Rotary member John Stewart said raising the money was “for a great cause” and the club were more than happy to assist because a child needed help.
