Bendigo has experienced its hottest night in nearly a year, with the mercury failing to fall below 23 degrees.

While temperatures on Wednesday did not climb quite as high as forecast – the maximum reached was 37.2 degrees, rather than the expected 39 degrees – at midnight, the temperature was still a steamy 28.5.
The temperature did not fall below 25 degrees until after 4am on Thursday, and the lowest of the Bureau of Meteorology’s half-hourly readings was 23.3 degrees, at 5.30am.
The last time Bendigo experienced such a warm night was January 8, when the minimum temperature was 26.2 degrees.
It was a slightly cooler night in Redesdale, which at 6.30am recorded a minimum of 21.3 degrees.
Wednesday was the warmest day in Bendigo since February.
But conditions will be cooler on Thursday, with the city expecting a maximum of 32 degrees.
Echuca is forecast to reach 34 degrees, Redesdale 32, Maryborough 29, Castlemaine 29, and Kyneton 28.
