After becoming the youngest winner of the Melbourne Cup on Wheels in 2016, Buckell took his cycling to another level in 2017.
Buckell won a bronze medal in the madison at the world junior championships in Italy in August and in the past dominated two Victorian elite men competitions.
Buckell won gold in the scratch and points races in the elite men category at the Victorian track championships and he beat a quality field to win the elite men omnium.
The Victorian Institute of Sport scholarship holder earned selection alongside two other Bendigo riders in the Victorian squad for February’s national track championships in Brisbane.
Buckell will be joined in the elite men’s team by star Bendigo sprinter Braeden Dean.
Bendigo junior Ned Pollard was selected in the Victorian under-19 squad.
The titles will be held from February 1-4.
