The truck was travelling on the Maldon-Newstead Road about 3.15am when the driver heard one of the tyres blow.
He pulled over and got out, to discover the burst tyre had caught alight.
The driver attempted to put the fire out himself, but was unsuccessful, and emergency services were called.
Five CFA crews attended, but the fire had spread to the PVC curtains on the trailer and caused significant damage.
Fibreglass on the refrigerated trailer behind was also damaged.
The B-double was transporting vegetables.
Police and VicRoads also attended the scene of the fire.
A road diversion was put in place for some time while heavy haulage took the B-double from the scene.
