The fire danger period will begin at 1am on Monday, December 4, meaning from that point on, anyone wanting to light a fire in the open air will require a permit from the CFA or the council to do so.
CFA District 2 operations manager, Bill Johnstone, said most forecasts indicated an above average fire season.
“It is important to prepare your property to minimise any chance of fire taking hold or spreading,” he said.
“It’s also just as important to undertake mitigation work, including slashing, grading and general property clean-up before the fire danger ratings increase.”
Macedon Ranges Shire Council said it was almost halfway through its roadside slashing program, and had issued almost 400 fire prevention notices since October.
Community safety manager Anne-Louise Linder said preventing fires was everyone’s responsibility.
“A well-maintained property will help to reduce the risk of fire so it’s important that you remove fine fuels such as long grass, weeds, twigs and leaves from around your home,” she said.
The council has changed its free green waste disposal policy.
As of November 1, there is no limit on the amount of green waste Macedon Ranges Shire residents can leave for free at transfer stations.
