Axedale golfers are looking to break a five-year away team hoodoo by defeating Belvoir Park in the annual Beldale Cup clash between the sister clubs on Sunday.

Axedale holds a 3-2 advantage heading into the sixth edition of the Beldale Cup, with the home team having prevailed each year.
Axedale heads to Belvoir Park on Sunday knowing it faces an uphill task on Belvoir’s slick greens.
“Belvoir members know their course like the back of their hands – same with our players,’’ Axedale president Andrew Watson said.
“It’s a massive hurdle to overcome, but we’re confident of giving a good account of ourselves on Sunday.”
Belvoir Park president Mick Smith welcomed Axedale’s challenge
“Our course is that bit longer and our greens roll totally differently to Axedale,’’ Belvoir Park president Mick Smith said.
“We’ve got a lot of players in good form and we think they’ll struggle to knock us off.
“Andrew (Watson) will be bringing the Beldale Cup trophy with him and we aim to have him leave itt behind in our clubrooms.”
The Beldale Cup was started in 2012 to help cement the relationship between Axedale and Belvoir Park club members, who enjoy reciprocal rights at each other’s course.
Backed by Napier Park Funerals and McIntosh Signs, the event will feature more than 100 men and women golfers.
Men and women play in foursomes, featuring pairs from both clubs.
Scoring is Stableford, with the highest aggregate of the leading 85 per cent of players from each club deciding the winner of the Central Trophies-donated perpetual cup.
Meanwhile, Bendigo professional golfers Lucas Herbert, Andrew Martin and Kris Mueck fired sub-par rounds on day one of the $400,000 New South Wales Open in Sydney on Thursday.
Martin set the Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club course alight in the morning when he birdied his first six holes.
Playing in the same group as Mueck, Martin rocketed to the top of the leaderboard with birdies from the 10th through to the 15th.
Martin finished his round at four-under par, in a tie for 16th four shots off the lead, while Mueck signed for a one-under par 71.
Herbert played some brilliant golf in the afternoon to be in a tie for fifth at six-under par.
Herbert mixed eight birdies with two bogeys in a fine round of 66. The 21-year-old will be looking to take advantage of an early tee time on Friday.
Daniel Nisbet, Jason Scrivener and Brett Coletta share the lead at eight-under par.
