The 26-year-old appeared in an out-of-sessions court hearing in Swan Hill overnight.
He was remanded to appear before the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning regarding charges of escape, theft, theft of motor vehicle, burglary and traffic offences.
The man has been in custody since Saturday morning, when he was arrested at a residential property on Hoare Street, Swan Hill.
UPDATE, 4.11pm: POLICE have charged a prisoner who allegedly escaped while undertaking community work near Castlemaine last week.
The 26-year-old has been charged with escape, theft, theft of motor vehicle, burglary and traffic offences.
He will appear before an out-of-sessions court hearing tomorrow morning.
The man was arrested at a residential property on Hoare Street, Swan Hill, this morning.
EARLIER: POLICE have located and arrested a prisoner who allegedly escaped while undertaking community work near Castlemaine last week.
The man is believed to have fled from Muckleford Railway Station, where he was part of a working group, just after 9.30am on 20 October.
It is alleged he took off in a ute that had been parked nearby.
Central Goldfields Crime Investigation Unit, with assistance from Fugitive Taskforce members and local police, located the man about 11.50am today at a residential premises on Hoare Street, Swan Hill.
Investigators would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating him.
Police are yet to recover the white 2008 Holden Rodeo Ute, which has an aluminium tray with an orange crane on the back and registration YES460.
The vehicle is believed to be in the Swan Hill or Torrumbarry areas.
