Having opened their season with a round one win over last season’s grand finalist, Bendigo United, the Jets hold the upper hand in their game against White Hills with a score of 9-279 to defend when play resumes on Saturday.
“Last year was tough and it would be obviously great to go 2-0 if we can bowl and field well tomorrow,” Jets captain Ben Devanny said on Friday.

“We’ve had a good pre-season and we’ve got ourselves into a position where we can make a pretty good start to the season.”
The Jets largely have Devanny to thank for their score of 9-279 last week.
The skipper was the backbone of the innings in making an unbeaten 116 – his sixth century for Strathfieldsaye.
The Jets had been 7-178 with 20 overs to go before Jed Rodda (15), who came in on a hat-trick ball by Jayden Sheean, and Chris Cullen (16) teamed with Devanny to add another 101 runs.
“It was disappointing to lose wickets in chunks throughout the day, but to be able to get through the day and bat out our 85 overs was pleasing,” Devanny said.

“It’s a quick outfield at White Hills and they have some batsmen who can hurt you. If they bat positively as well and bat all day, they will give themselves every chance of chasing them down, so we’ll have to bowl well if we’re going to defend our total.”
