Penno Smash Repairs has decked out its premises in Hawks colours, with owner Nick Penno saying everyone at the business was looking forward to celebrating a win.
EARLIER: Eaglehawk High Street’s shop fronts are turning light and dark blue as the Borough prepares for tomorrow’s grand final showdown with Strathfieldsaye.
Grant Rule had his number 46 guernsey in the window of his menswear shop. It was the same one he wore when he played for the club in the 1980s and 90s.
“It’s not often you get a grand final side with both reserves and seniors in the one year. You’ve got to make a bit of an effort and put up a few balloons and streamers,” he said.
“Everyone in the street is getting into it, which is great.”
Major’s Sports and Cycles Shop window included historic memorabilia and photos while at Eaglehawk Floral Boutique a football guernsey and a local athletics club banner had been borrowed to complete a display.
Local business owner Fleur O’Dwyer said when Eaglehawk was in the finals there was a good feeling in the area.
“Everyone is happy. There’s lots of celebrations going on in the town and it brings people to Eaglehawk,” she said.
“We are just die-hard Eaglehawk fans, really. We love the Borough.”
She was confident the Hawks would win.
“I know my husband is going to the match, I probably will go too. It’s going to be a beautiful day too, which should bring people out,” she said.
