The Aligning Health retreat and day spa wishes to add two more accommodation units, a treatment room and a transportable communal space to its existing facility in Axedale.
The proposal will allow the facility to cater for up to twelve guests.
Additionally, plans for a 37-room motel at 12-14 Myers Street have been lodged with council.
The ground floor of the site, which is located in an architecturally-significant area of the CBD – close to St Paul’s Cathedral and the historic Bush’s Produce store – will be a retail area.
The development, valued at $3 million, is said to provide “a transitional height” between the historic store and the cathedral, according to the planning application.
“The proposed works result in an acceptable level of change that ensures the viability and compatible use of the site,” the submission states.
The application also proposes to reduce the car-parking allocation at the site from 49 to 16.
The submission argues that for certain days of the week the availability of on-street car parking more than accounts for the shortfall of spaces.
The proposed complex’s close proximity to Bendigo train station was also a factor that needed considering, the application stated.
