The Elmore Field Days site has begun to take shape with the help of about 70 volunteers, a little less than a month out from the major agricultural event.
The volunteers, who came from a variety of organisations including schools and service clubs, were at the site on Wednesday to mark out the spaces for the 700-plus exhibitors
“They like supporting our school, so it’s good to give back to them,” Rochester Secondary College year 9 student Cassie Broad said.
Volunteers are considered the backbone of the whole event.
“They’re extremely important – we wouldn’t have a Field Days without volunteers,” the event’s chair of static display Scott Nichol said.
Ken Hocking, who was volunteering from the Rochester Lions Club, said the Field Days were also “very important” to the area, providing a significant injection for the local economy and helping the community.
Volunteer organisations that help with the event receive a financial benefit in return.
The three-day Field Days event, now in its 54th year, begins on October 3.
Mr Nichol said it was shaping up to be a good year, with a full site and a waiting list of exhibitors.
Exhibitors come from across Australia to show at the event, which attracts thousands of visitors.
Mr Nichol said the site was looking good too, after the muddy conditions seen in 2016.
This time the event will be held in the school holidays, so there will be more children’s activities.
