In what has become an all-too-familiar sight for the Dragons over the past two seasons, Martin left the field in the arms of trainers with a knee injury during the third quarter of last Sunday’s elimination final win over Kyneton.
It was only Martin’s second game back from what had also been a similar injury to the same left knee against Eaglehawk in round 14.
It’s also the same knee the dual Michelsen medallist of 2013-14 suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury to early last year.
Last Sunday’s injury occurred the same way it did against Eaglehawk on July 29 – a clash of knees in a centre square ruck contest.
“There’s a lot of bruising still in there from last time and I was obviously hoping it wouldn’t hit there again,” Martin said on Wednesday.
As for playing this weekend against Golden Square: “It’s still a bit early to tell at this stage, but it’s probably 50/50,” Martin said.
“It’s one of those things where it will either settle down enough and I’ll be right to play come Sunday, or it won’t. I’m hopeful, but I’ll have to see how it goes.
“There’s not a heap I can do for it because it’s just bruising, so it’s mainly a lot of ice and then whether it settles down enough.”
Meanwhile, in Saturday night’s second semi-final Eaglehawk takes on Strathfieldsaye from 6pm.
