A war memorial gate at Chewton has sustained damage after a car ran into it on Sunday night.

The top of the memorial gate, which leads to the Chewton Soldiers Memorial Park, was dislodged and fell in the incident.
A Mount Alexander Shire spokeswoman said the damage was being assessed in order to plan for the required repairs.
Sergeant Mick Peckham, from Castlemaine police, said the driver of the car had been interviewed in relation to careless driving and it was expected the matter would proceed before the courts.
