Employees drew the name ‘Albert’ out of the hat on Saturday from among the many ideas, the moniker a nod to Albert Bush, who founded the store 160 years ago.
Aside from ‘other’, Albert was the second-most preferred name for the kitten among Bendigo Advertiser readers, behind ‘Bushy’.
Nick Crawford from Bush’s Produce said there had been “unprecedented interest” from the public in naming the new member of the store’s team.
Judith Randall was the person behind the successful suggestion.
Sixteen-week-old Albert came to Bush’s Produce from Chally Animal Rescue, which adopts out cats and kittens from Bush’s Produce.
The shop lost Albert’s beloved predecessor Tiger earlier this year.
Tiger, who was nearly 20 years old, was an icon of the shop and well-known among Bendigonians.
Albert looks set to make his own mark on the shop and is reported to be settling in well at his new home.
His name was revealed at Bush’s Produce’s spring open day, which included a sale, a representative from Chally Animal Rescue on hand to introduce people to kittens and talk about adoption, and TZR Reptiles and Wildlife, which does wildlife education and demonstrations.
