Nihill will be among 6000 race entries, including many past Olympic champions, from 850 clubs at the regatta, being held at Lake Bled from September 6 to 10.
Competing in the 75-80 age group, Nihill will contest his pet event, the single scull, as well as coxed four, coxless quad and an eight on a 1km course.
As well as an opportunity to race on the world stage, Nihill will also use his trip to create new connections between international rowing clubs and Bendigo.
“I will be representing Bendigo in single scull events and then joining international crews comprising athletes from Germany, England, Poland, America and Canada,” Nihill said this week before departing.
“It’s a great way to keep fit and foster friendships and connections within rowing from across the world.”
Bendigo Rowing Club president Peter Morison is confident Nihill will do the club proud.
“Denis is incredibly fit and basically, trains every second day of the week,” Morison said.
“His times on the course at Lake Weeroona rival many of our younger rowers.
“His technique is perfect and will be well suited to the longer course at Lake Bled in Slovenia.”
